My name is Erin. I'm a recent graduate of SIT Graduate Institute, where I received a Master of Arts in Intercultural Service, Leadership, and Management. Ever since living in Nepal from 2001 to 2007, I've been very passionate about working in the social sector.
Here's a timeline to give you a sense of what I've been up to since college:
After graduating a semester early from Beloit College, I started the year off visiting family and traveling in East Africa for a couple of months before moving to Chiang Mai, Thailand for 5 months to explore northern Thailand and teach English.
In July of 2011 I moved back to the U.S. for my Master's degree at SIT Graduate Institute in Vermont, where I studied topics ranging from sustainable development and nonprofit management to monitoring, evaluation, and project design. My self-designed degree combined courses from all of SIT's 3 degree areas for a well-rounded education preparing me to work in the social sector.
After finishing all my courses at SIT in May, I accepted a graduate internship at VIA in San Francisco. During the 6 months that followed I learned a ton about organizational behavior, partner development, and communication & outreach. Working for a small nonprofit I ended up doing everything from training incoming volunteers to redesigning a website.
I spent the first few months of this year interviewing organizations for my Master's thesis on organizational learning. I conducted a multi-case-study on small, international development nonprofits' organizational learning strategies, to learn more about how these organizations can be most effective and impactful in their work. I graduated in June 2013, and I am very excited to see what the rest of the year has in store!
